He faces defeat but never gives up. The show has children coming to life on the screen with their ability to express what they are feeling by showing their emotions through facial expressions. The story follows Billu, a little boy who is the son of a poor laborer. However, Billu finds himself going against his parents wishes, as he spends each day announcing his intentions to leave the village with a group of other children. These children are summoned by their local shaman and trained as "barkari" (tricks). Their training consists of learning how to do various mischievous tricks such as stealing money from unsuspecting people or creating panic in small villages. His father, however, does not condone the mischief that Billu and the rest of the barkaris are doing, instead preferring for them to study and work hard in school in hopes to one day find a well-paying job. However, Billu opts to follow in the tricks of his friends in order to make money. After getting caught stealing by authorities, Billu is forced to move away from his home because he has brought shame on his family's name. Sometime later, Billu returns back home with plans on making amends for his past deeds. With the help of his friend Ghoda, Billu convinces his parents to let him continue pursuing his passion. After a series of events, Billu's uncle makes a trade with a local bidder who happens to be a Shahi Baba. The Shahi Baba offers Billu and the other children an opportunity to have their wishes granted if they can collect 30 rupees for him from one potential buyer willing to buy the ones who fail. If they succeed, this will bring them closer to their dreams and give them financial security. If they fail, the Shahi Baba will take them away from their homes. In the end, Billu is rescued from a situation in which he is stranded in a desert with no supplies and no way to get home. He is saved by members of his own community who have been searching for him.
